RHI Technology center in Leoben becomes worldwide competence center for refractories

One of the essential strategic pillars of the RHI group in the current phase of implementing the restructuring concept is a significantly stronger commitment to in-house research & development. RHI CEO Dr. Helmut Draxler: “Research is an investment in the future. After a crisis, special emphasis must be placed on research. Therefore, we will focus worldwide research activities in Leoben.“

The group’s positioning as technology leader and high-quality supplier of refractory products and processes increases market opportunities in high-margin segments and leads to clear advantages n worldwide competition.

Unlike some other global players, RHI, Austria’s largest privately owned industrial group, attaches great importance to keeping know-how and expertise in country. To secure and extend technology leadership in the long term, the group’s worldwide research & development activities have been concentrated at Leoben, the location of the technology center of the RHI group.

More than 150 highly qualified employees work at the research center in Leoben. The objective of the research projects is the new and further development of refractory products, processes and technologies.

Leoben is the center of a worldwide network of contacts with public and private research institutions in Austria and abroad.

RHI invests € 20 million annually into refractories research and technological developments.
